Top 10 Things to Do in
New York City in the Fall

august 29, 2023

New York City has many wonders, but if you want to explore the city like a local, keep reading!

After living in New York City for so long, I finally gathered some local tips - that I wish I had when I first moved here! This is the number one question I get every time someone comes to visit, so here are my top tips whether you decided to live in the city that never sleeps or are just visiting - there you go!

1) One of my favorite places to check out in the fall is: 230 5th Avenue Rooftop
This is an amazing rooftop bar, and they offer cloaks that you can wear to stay warm, besides having little iglu style cabanas, and warm beverages! It's a trendy bar that screams NYC-style to the rooftops!

2) City Winery (25 11th Avenue)
If you are into wine tasting and live music, you can do both at City Winery! It has all the winery feels without leaving the city!

3) Hugo Rooftop (525 Greenwich Street)
There's never been a more popular Happy Hour spot than the Hugo Rooftop! Remember to arrive early or make reservations in advance, because this place gets packed! You won't regret the wait!

4) Beauty & Essex (146 Essex Street)
This hidden gem is a stylish bar that looks like a hardware store and repair shop from the outside, but it's an amazing restaurant and fun bar to dance all night long! If you would like to have a nice meal and put on your dancing shoes, then this is the place for you!

5) The Raines Law Room (48 W 17th Street)
Despite the name, it's not a courtroom, however it is a prohibition era style bar, which is a secret bar that looks like nothing more than a regular residential door from the outside. You need to knock on the door and give them your cell phone number and they will call back once they have availability.

If you like the cocktail bar atmosphere, here are some of the best of the best in the city:

6) The Polo Bar (1 E 55th St) - Ralph Lauren's infamous Polo Bar
They also have a Ralph Lauren cafe that's great to take a break in the middle of the day. The posh coffee shop "Ralph's Coffee" is located at 888 Madison Avenue serving baked goods with retro vibes, and you can also shop in store while you are there.

7) Lillie’s Victorian Establishment (249 W 49th Street)
Just for the decor alone it's worth checking out this spot! So you wouldn't want to miss the best cocktails in the city!

8) Please Don't Tell (113 St Marks Place)
As the name says, please don't tell anyone else about this fancy cocktail bar. You will enter through a phone booth and as many prohibition style bars, you can't tell it's a bar! Unless of course, you read it here and you know where to go - but please don't tell!

9) The Back Room (102 Norfolk St)
This hideaway with a prohibi-esque vibe will surprise you with their tea cups for drinks. Don't let yourself be fooled, that's how they used to get away with selling liquor: by pouring them in tea cups!

10) Hotel 50 Bowery Rooftop (50 Bowery)
As our last but not least recommendation, Hotel 50 Bowery, as many people know as "Bowery Hotel," but don't get confused with "The Bowery Hotel," in the Lower East Side. This is one of the few places in the city, where you can get a view of...well, the city! Enjoy!

For so many years I’ve struggled with the idea of perfection. I’ve struggled with letting people know I’m not perfect and that hasn’t been easy. I panicked at the idea of being famous because then people would find out the idea I had created for myself wasn’t real, and I had to show them I wasn’t perfect. I didn’t realize that’s what makes people lovable, knowing that we aren’t perfect. Knowing we are all dealing with the same things, struggling with the same issues, and sometimes we might even find solutions together.

I've recently finished reading the book The Artist's Way and it took me a while to even get around to reading it, if I am being honest - btw one thing that's important to me is being honest, specially being honest with myself - so I will be honest here. I thought I needed many things I didn't need, and where in fact preventing me from where I wanted to go or the person I wanted to be. It's like I was able to portray this fearless image, and even if I believe myself to be that person, but all I needed was to believe in myself. I was scared people would find out I am not really the person I project myself to be and that was just a way to get people to stay away from me, or better yet at a safe distance. So they would never find out how I am not perfect at all. How I am not this amazing person, who has all the answers that I made myself to be or that they believe myself to be even.

It got to a point that I couldn't keep up with my image, because I felt that I wasn't human anymore. It's like I created my own version of a perfect world, that wasn't perfect even for me, because it wasn't genuine. Even though I was getting recognition and success, I felt like I was a fraud. Like I got recognized for something I didn't do, or being someone I really am not. I struggled with that, calling it "Impostor Syndrome," as I heard people call it. However, even that didn't feel authentic.
